Though the most primitive origins of tassels have been traced by archeologists to the tombs of the Egyptian Pharaohs 5,000 years ago, formal tassels appear to have originated in China. Further up their evolution, Italians during the Renaissance, gave them new life with fabulous silk versions. But it was the French who, during the 17th and 18th centuries, took the art of tassel making into magnificent heights, an art that became known as passementerie. During this period, highly valued French artisans developed elaborate techniques and using metallic gold and silver threads, as well as silk threads, hand made the most intricate and exquisite tassels.

What was not seen then and has not been seen since, are tassels where their finials are made in their entirety by interwoven metallic pieces intercalated by threaded semi-precious stones and where the skirt has often been replaced by chain. The end result being tassels that are considered rather pieces of jewelry.

Because of being conceived from an untried angle, because of being assembled with untried elements and because of being constructed with untried techniques, the end result of Luxury Tassels is globally unique.
